We welcome school visits from children of any age.
Making a Booking:
Please ring Mrs Alex Samuel on 07808 762982 or email ilkleytoymuseum for further details.
£2.50 per child. All teachers and helpers are free of charge. You can pay by cash or cheque on the day of your visit or we can invoice your school.
A visit normally lasts between one and one and a half hours. We only take one school booking per day so you can arrive at a time to suit your travel arrangements and stay as long as you like. Arrangements can be made to eat a packed lunch at the museum.
The maximum number of children in a group is 40. There are other attractions in Ilkley within walking distance of the museum so schools with more than 40 children can stagger sessions.
We provide clipboards, pencils, drawing paper and a work sheet appropriate to the age of the children.
We have a small shop area with plenty of items under £3.00
What happens on a school visit?
After greeting the children and handing out clipboards, we split into groups and spread out into the three main areas of the museum. You will need sufficient adult helpers to assist the children with their quiz. Year 1 and 2 children generally use our picture quiz. We have various question quizzes for the older year groups.
On the ground floor we have a working model fairground and a clockwork train which we demonstrate. Upstairs you wil see a demonstration of the Zoetrope and some mechanical and clockwork toys.
Responsibility for the children remains with the Teacher at all times. Two members of the museum staff will normally be on duty for a school visit in order to greet the children, distribute quiz sheets and demonstrate some working toys.
Please note we only have one toilet available (also suitable for disabled use). Teachers should allocate sufficient time for toilet visits.
